A Closer Look at Being Yourself

Be Yourself

You hear these words all the time. Inspirational quotes and kindly advice. But when you read them, do they hold any value?

“Be yourself” has become cliche. It simply passes by. Hiding in plain sight like a waitress or train conductor can.

When you stop and contemplate, really give it some thought, what does “be yourself” mean?

It means allowing your personality to shine, not suppressing your quirks.

It means following your true passions, not working just to pay the bills forever.

It means connecting with your inner child. Are there hobbies you once loved that you now overlook?

It means allowing yourself to feel your feelings. Not constantly distracting yourself from the negatives and playing down the positives.

It means accepting your likes and dislikes. Not partying simply because you feel that’s the acceptable thing, but reading a book by the fire instead on a Friday night.

It means taking action to be happy. Majority of the barriers holding us back from our dreams are built by ourselves.

It means taking care of yourself, physically and mentally, before others. We take best care of others when we are in a good place ourselves.

It means taking yourself less seriously and allowing yourself to simply enjoy the fantastic opportunity that life is.

It means realising that you have talent, and that changing your circumstances or environment may be the best thing to bring it to light.

It means working to your strengths, growing your weaknesses, and making peace with your limitations.

It means trying something new and experiencing growth, at any stage in life.

So be yourself starting today and don’t you ever look back.
